breaking the robot heart

oh, stella, couldn't you tell?
of course I meant well but ya gotta remember
I'm crazy as hell
and the grace from which
I've fallen
Wasn't stolen, no, I gave it all way
And I felt some return the first
time I heard you say
 "I love you"

breaking the robot heart
letting go of the machine
breaking the robot heart
and waking up in a dream

oh, stella, you know I'm a mess
and like a blind man improvising at chess
I went for red lipstick and a black leather dress
like that would be impressive
like that would be what helped you run away
and, it still still kills me when I hear you say
"I love you"

breaking the robot heart
letting go of the machine
breaking the robot heart
and waking up in a dream

I'll always be right where you want me
never even a step from yr need
and never forget that I want you
and across the distance I will grieve
for that smallest sense of wonder
I let myself believe
But thanks to you and only you
I do believe
I'm closing in on
bigger and better things
but bigger than what?
and better than who?
nothing is bigger than what you gave me
and nobody's better than you

breaking the robot heart
letting go of the machine
breaking the robot heart
and waking up in a dream
where i love you
yes, i love you

cold nights in the highlands

now that i got ya listening let's proceed w/a healthy suspicion
of each other's motives and how much each of us cares
about our place in the universe and other such sad affairs

now that i have yr attention there's a couple of things i should probably mention
i'm not in it for the money, baby, i just want yr love well, i'll take a little money but i really want yr love

but sometimes it makes me feel dirty
pouring out my heart and i gotta start at seven thirty
sometimes i hit the mark sometimes i don't but i won't tell anybody if you won't

now most of the time i'll be lying abt  long black trains and cold nights in the Highlands
but sometimes i'll  sing something clear and true and that's when i'll be singing just for you.

You Got Me

E  F#m  G#M  A
You got me in a heartbeat, and I mean a heartbeat, and that ain't a figure of speech
you got me at arm's length, baby,  give me strength while yr still in reach
F#Maj    A (2x) E   D   A   F#  Maj    A
You got me cold
I want it bad
And this is the best time I've ever had
Even w/it's own special kind of sad
You got me cold
I want it bad   E  G#Maj    A

You got me in a headlock and I've come down with writer's block Trying to describe
You got me in a glass case I could be yr best mistake We could take a ride

Mott the Hoople

Back when All the Young Dudes was new
I was young and the drugs still worked
Everything rocked in it's way, in its sway
I'd always push it till somebody got hurt
Cause there is no fiction richer
Than those pictures of a young man's fears

And I haven't felt like Mott the Hoople
In what seems like 100 years

Take the corporate ladder all the way to the ledge
Take somebody's heart and break it in half
Take to damn long to get yr head screwed back on
And time, that old whore, starts to laugh
Cause there is no fiction richer
Than those pictures of an old man's fears

And I haven't felt like Mott the Hoople
In what seems like 100 years

Remember when all it took to feel good
Was a song on the radio?
Has too much gone for us to rock on?
Oh say it ain't so
Yeah, say it ain't so

So the next time yr in some bar all guitared up
Acting all tragic and emotionally scarred up
Thinking in yr head that yr a rock and roll star
Well, I wish you could see just how screwed up you are
Because there is no fiction richer
Than those pictures of a dead man's fears

And I haven't felt like Mott the Hoople
In what seems like 100 years
No, I haven't felt like Mott the Hoople
In what seems like 100 years

The Baby Didn't Make It

How you holding up, baby, can I get you anything?  D      b    C
Would you like a tranquilizer?
Or maybe just a stiff drink?
We all know what yr feeling
We all feel it too
The baby didn't make it
There was nothing that you could do.

In the year of yr first awakening, baby,
You just traded everything
For an endless supply of the same old lies
And the comfort of a wedding ring.
And we all know what you've sacrificed
We've made sacrifices, too
The baby didn't make it
And there was nothing that we could do

Could you imagine if what you imagined      D  C
It was gonna be like came true?     G
Some people find their satisfied mind  D   C
Though most of us never do  G

But, baby, I'm pulling for you   D   C   G
How you holding up, baby, you can talk to me, I'm yr friend   D  b  C
And I know that right now yr hurting, doll
And it feels like the bitter end
Let me take you in my arms, little darlin'
And I'll teach you how to dance again.

We all know that yr searching
We're all searching for something, too
The baby didn't make it
But this world will have to do.

Let me take you in my arms, little darlin'
And I'll teach you how to dance again.
